Data Explorer

Load a dataset and freely explore its variables. Select one or two variables from the sidebar, choose a chart type, and see the result. The goal is to practice choosing appropriate visualizations for different variable types.

How to use

Load a dataset from the dropdown, or paste your own data.
Click a variable in the sidebar to select it. Click a second variable to compare two variables. Click again to deselect.
Choose a chart type from the radio buttons. All types are always available — some will work better than others depending on your variable selection.
Interpret the chart and summary statistics. Then try a different combination.

Options that appear for some charts

Depending on which chart and variables you pick, extra controls show up under the chart type:

Bar Layout (bar chart of two variables) — Side-by-side, Stacked, or 100% Stacked. The 100% option scales every bar to the same height so you compare proportions rather than counts.
Chart Options — chart-specific settings such as the number of histogram bins.
Table Display (two categorical variables) — show the contingency table as Counts, Row %, Column %, or Cell %.
Export CSV — after data loads, the summary bar includes an Export CSV button that downloads the current dataset.

Variable types

Q Quantitative — measurements or counts (e.g., income, age, weight)
C Categorical — group labels or categories (e.g., region, treatment, color)
